Rolly Table by Mike & Maaike — A Playful Study in Proportion and Movement

Rolly Table by Mike & Maaike - Proportion shapes everything we understand as design — whether it affirms what an object should be or challenges our perception entirely. Mike & Maaike’s Rolly table does exactly that. Instead of treating the wheel as an invisible piece of hardware, the designers enlarge it into a starring element, giving the table’s rolling legs the same visual weight as its top.

Crafted from solid birch, Rolly consists of four identical circular forms, three of which act as oversized wheels, while the rear wheel operates like a rudder, guiding the piece as it moves. The tabletop appears larger or smaller depending on how light hits the tilted circles supporting it, giving the design a playful sense of optical illusion.

The table transitions effortlessly between serving cart and display platform, supported by a discreet steel structure that hides smaller mechanical details. Despite its unusual silhouette, it remains stable — even when transporting your most delicate glassware… martinis included.

Rolly comes in natural birch and deep black finishes that highlight the wood’s grain, as well as a bold black-and-white striped version that creates shifting graphic patterns depending on each wheel’s position. A more colorful edition offers washes of stone white, dandelion yellow, terra cotta, and natural wood, letting the material’s texture remain visible through every hue.

Simple yet expressive, minimal yet dynamic, Rolly distills intention into pure geometry — expanding, literally, the role of wheels in the world of modern furniture.
