At the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Paola Pivi: I Don’t Like It, I Love It transforms AGWA’s Brutalist architecture into a vibrant, dreamlike realm where humor and gravity coexist. Renowned for her surreal and playful scenarios — from feather-covered polar bears to upside-down airplanes and zebras in snowy landscapes — Pivi explores themes of coexistence, empathy, and environmental fragility.
The exhibition debuts several new commissions, including a monumental inflatable comic cell created in collaboration with Big Nate creator Lincoln Peirce, three new polar bear sculptures, and a rooftop installation of suspended trays filled with colored liquid that interact with light and space.
With her signature blend of joy and reflection, Pivi invites visitors to experience art as a place of connection, imagination, and wonder.
